MEDICA 2021, the benchmark congress for the medical technology industry, was held in Germany from November 15 to 18, 2021. In this edition, the main players in the sector have presented their most innovative solutions and proposals, along with an extensive conference program in which aspects such as digital advances in the sector and new app and software solutions for the medical industry and to make patients’ lives easier have been discussed.

Why is MEDICA so important for the healthcare sector?

MEDICA is an established event for the medical sector and it has attracted 46,000 visitors from 150 different countries and 3,000 exhibitors. International participation in the congress stands at 73%.

As a hybrid event, MEDICA provided exhibitors and visitors with a vital platform to discuss innovative medical products and current trends in the field of technology, both in person and online.

In this way, visitors have been able to obtain information on the wide range of innovations for outpatient and inpatient care, including every step of their development and manufacture, and to test many innovative products live in the exhibition halls.

Personal dialogue remains irreplaceable, even in this era of digital transformation, and even more so after the situation experienced by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, events such as MEDICA become even more relevant.

Since its inception, MEDICA has been the benchmark event in the sector, also in part thanks to the importance of the medical technology industry in Germany. A forum where innovations and novelties are presented, where companies launch their new equipment.

What was MEDICA 2021 like?

This edition of MEDICA has inevitably been marked by the COVID and the number of participating companies has been reduced, although we have had the presence of new, very active emerging companies and relevant players from countries such as Spain, Italy, Turkey and China.

COVID also marked several of the agenda items and was a recurring theme in many of the presentations and papers.

What does it mean for NEXOR Medical to have attended MEDICA?

As every year, NEXOR Medical has also been present in this edition to hold meetings with current and potential customers, distributors and other relevant actors of the sector. This human contact and closeness with customers is essential to maintain a successful relationship and constant communication.

Among other topics, we had the opportunity to learn about new solutions in robotics, telemedicine, audiovisual technology and artificial intelligence applied to medical equipment, as well as new disinfection options or cleaning and lighting protocols related to COVID-19.

In this sense, perhaps one of the most interesting discoveries has been the UVC lighting system that disinfects and kills viruses and bacteria and can be used in different areas.

The possibility of interacting and exchanging experiences in a forum of international relevance as MEDICA is especially important in the context in which we find ourselves. Because in NEXOR Medical we know the importance of being updated in order to offer the best solutions and products to healthcare professionals and patients.
